HENNEPIN
COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
PPL Industries has been a valuable partner for Hennepin
County in its household batteries and off-site recycling
programs. We collect, sort, and track batteries from some
160 locations around the county.
Hennepin County has partnered with PPL Industries to create a variety of recycling programs to help remove plastic bottles, aluminum cans, glass, plastic bags & film from the waste stream. Instead, they'll be reused once again in new product manufacturing.

PPL Industries Recycling Initiative—Keeping the Environment in Mind
PPL Industries is a local leader in supporting large scale community recycling initiatives. Our services are cost-effective, flexible and adaptable. Over the years, we have cultivated a strong relationship with Hennepin County, MN Waste Wise, and the Recycling Association of MN.

“I think what’s really important is not only doing something that is sound environmental policy but then the folks who learn so much at PPL Industries are also connected to other PPL services. If they’re homeless, not only do they learn these job skills and connect with employment after 18 months, if they need housing they can also work with PPL on locating housing. People coming out of correctional facilities who might end up on the street or reoffending now have this opportunity that breaks that cycle and gets them back on track to a better future. This is a win-win for the community in every respect, so thank you for the work you do.”
– Hennepin County Commissioner Gail Dorfman

• Electronics
PPL Industries is a proven leader in disassembly and reclamation of consumer electronics and batteries.
We’ve collected and disassembled tens of thousands of televisions, stereos, telephones, VCRs, computers, rechargeable appliances, and other miscellaneous electronic equipment. Most of the items we receive we recycle so that they can eventually be reused in other products. Moreover, PPL keeps those products with harmful toxins away from its waste stream.
•
Mattresses Mattresses that would have ended up in landfills are now accepted for recycling via drop off at our location or through or collection and pick-up service. The mattresses are then taken apart and the materials separated for recycling at the PPL Industries facility. Hennepin County is the first to offer mattress recycling in the Twin Cities. There are only two other mattress recycling programs in the United States. Learn more
• Plastic Bags and Film Through the Minnesota Waste Wise recycling program It's in the Bag, consumers drop off plastic bags and film at participating retail locations throughout the Twin Cities. PPL Industries’ trainees collect and sort them. Over the last six months alone we’ve removed over 100,000 lbs of plastic bags from our local highways. You could say we’re helping Minneapolis become green one bag at a time. Learn more
